THE BIG QUESTION

How does the presence of an absolute power affect the way that a society as a whole operates?

First of all, I definately think that an absolute power (or any form of government at that) effects the way that people interact with eachother and their environments on a daily basis. Secondly, I think that a totalitarian government has a more severe effect on the people of a nation than that of a democratic government.

That being said, I find it astounding that the government in both animal farm and 1984 have total control over the populous that they are supposedly representing. I find it hard to believe that the people of these nations would so readily believe their leaders.

I also found it horrifying that the poples' language in 1984 was deteriorating because of constant revisions to the "newspeak dictionary"
